TAKING THE STAGE

As part of our history unit on the American Revolution, our class is gearing up for a  production of an original play, "The British Are Coming!" by Ms. Hannah Elizabeth Haney, about the rising tension between the king and the colonies leading up to the Revolutionary War. This play is a fun opportunity for students to showcase their talents, from singing and dancing to designing costumes and scenery, and even leadership jobs backstage. Stay tuned for audition dates and more information!

BOOKWORMS IN 5A

This week, we will be starting Accelerated Reader, which is a fantastic reading program designed to get students excited about what they read.  Each student took a pre-test this week to find out their individual strengths and weaknesses as a reader, and received a list of books that other students at the same level have enjoyed. Students will have thirty minutes each day to read a book at their level, and after they finish their book, they take a quiz about the book they just read testing their comprehension to receive a certain number of ‘bookworm points’. The class has agreed this week on a goal of 1,000 combined AR points as a class by the end of the semester—if they achieve this, I will throw a pizza party for the whole class the week before winter break!

A QUICK HELLO

Hello!

My name is Alyssa Bleitz, and it is my joy and privilege to have your child in my class at Buckham Elementary this year!

A little about me—I am originally from Saline, Michigan , but moved to Upland,  Indiana for college. This is my first full year teaching. I graduated from Taylor University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary/Special Education. I am a voracious reader with a fierce love for bad puns and good conversations. I am also the oldest of three, and this year is a  big one for my family. My youngest brother, Evan is a senior in high school preparing to graduate, and my sister, Maria, recently graduated high school and is just starting her freshman year at Grand Valley State University.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your student this year! I hope my classroom is a safe, welcoming place for both you and your student. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you have via email (alyssa_bleitz@taylor.edu) or call my extension during school hours (766-9055 ext. 8495 from 7 am to  4 pm). I am  eager to hear from you and to help in any way I can!
